Who we are and what this policy covers

NRTHRNLIGHTS, L.L.C. ("we", "us", or "our") operates Light DJ, Light DJ Pro, Light DJ Deluxe, Light DJ Studio, Light DJ Visualizer, the Light DJ Network cloud service, and lightdjapp.com. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use these apps, services, and website. Features and data handling vary by app, platform, and the features you choose. Light DJ Remix has its own privacy policy and is not covered by this policy.

This policy describes our information practices; it does not replace separate permission or consent requests. Contact Kevin Kolasinski at kevin@nrthrnlights.com with privacy questions or requests.

Information we collect and why

Accounts and sign-in. If you create or use a Light DJ Network account, we process your account identifier, email address, display name, and authentication information to sign you in, maintain your account, and connect your content and purchases across supported apps. Depending on the sign-in method available in your app, Apple, Google, or Facebook may provide an identifier and profile information you authorize. We use Google Firebase Authentication for account authentication. You do not need to create a Light DJ Network account to use features that do not require an account.

Cloud content and sharing. When you use cloud features, we process the content you upload or sync, such as custom effects, sheets, playlists, and Studio light shows, together with titles, creator information, identifiers, and sync timestamps. We use this information to save, synchronize, restore, and share your content. Google Firebase services, including Cloud Firestore, support these features. Content you publish or share may be available to other users along with creator information. Other users may retain copies they download, even if you later delete or unshare your copy.

Lighting and device connections. The apps use local-network access to discover and control compatible lights. They handle connection details such as device and bridge identifiers, local IP addresses, access credentials, light names, and lighting arrangements. Connection settings are stored on your device as needed to reconnect and operate your lights. Lighting types and counts may also be included in usage analytics; configuration details may appear in diagnostic information you send us. Your lighting provider separately handles information through its own products and services.

Microphone and music access. With your permission, the music visualizer and microphone-based beat detection analyze sound on your device while those features are active, including during supported background operation. Microphone audio used for these features is processed in memory, not saved as audio recordings or uploaded to us or an audio-analysis service. Music-library access lets you select and play music in supported features. Music references and metadata included in a saved playlist or light show may accompany that content when you sync or share it. You can revoke microphone or music-library permission in your device settings; features requiring that permission will then be unavailable.

Purchases. Apple or Google processes purchases made through its store. We receive purchase or subscription information, such as product identifiers, receipts or purchase tokens, transaction status, and subscription entitlement information, to validate purchases, restore access, and provide supported account benefits. We do not receive your full payment-card number or security code from these store purchases.

Usage analytics and diagnostics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand app usage and improve reliability and features. Information can include app and operating-system versions, device characteristics, app-instance identifiers, feature interactions, app launches, purchase status, and lighting types or counts. These records may relate to a particular app installation and should not be assumed to be anonymous. Service requests also involve technical information such as IP addresses and request logs. If you send a support request or diagnostic attachment, it may include account details, device and lighting information, activity logs, and content names. Avoid including information that is not needed for your request.

Website and communications. Our website uses Google Analytics and related browser storage or cookies to measure visits and interactions. Hosting and analytics services process technical information about visits, such as network requests, browser/device information, and online identifiers. Browser settings can restrict cookies or storage, although blocking cookies does not prevent all server logging. If you contact us, we receive the information you provide and use it to respond. If you subscribe to marketing emails, we use your contact information to send them; you can unsubscribe using the message's instructions or by contacting us.

How we use and disclose information

We use information to operate the apps and cloud service, authenticate accounts, validate purchases, synchronize and share content at your direction, respond to support requests, improve functionality, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.

Service providers. We use service providers for hosting, authentication, cloud storage, analytics, and communications. They receive the information needed for their services and are subject to applicable contractual and data-protection requirements. Google Firebase and Google Analytics are among these providers. Apple, Google, Facebook, and lighting providers also process information under their own policies when you use their services. Information you choose to make public or share is disclosed according to that choice.

We do not sell or rent your personal information or disclose it to third parties for their own advertising purposes.

Access for support and operations. Authorized personnel may access information when needed to provide support, maintain and secure the service, investigate abuse, or comply with legal obligations. We limit access to those purposes. We may ask for additional information or permission when investigating a problem with your content.

Legal and business disclosures. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or legal process, protect rights and safety, or investigate fraud or abuse. Information may also be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business, subject to applicable privacy obligations.

Storage, security, and international processing

Some information is stored on your device. Information sent to our cloud service or providers may be processed in the United States and other countries where those providers operate. Data-protection laws may differ from those in your country. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, those transfers must be covered by an appropriate legal mechanism, such as an applicable adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data. We do not claim that NRTHRNLIGHTS, L.L.C. holds a Privacy Shield or Data Privacy Framework certification.

We use access controls and other technical and organizational measures to protect information. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure. Protect your account credentials and the devices you use to access the service.

How long we retain information

We retain information for the purposes described in this policy, taking into account account activity, the service or support requested, security needs, and legal requirements. Different categories have different retention needs; there is no single retention period for all information.

Cloud content is generally retained while it remains in your account. Deleting content may initially mark it as deleted so that the deletion can sync across devices. Account deletion removes authentication access and deletes or marks associated cloud records as deleted. Some records may remain, including a deletion record containing your email address and deletion date, purchase records needed to verify entitlements or meet legal obligations, and security or support records. Backups and service logs may retain residual information until their retention cycles expire. Deletion is therefore not an assurance that every copy immediately disappears. Contact us to request deletion of remaining personal information; we will explain any applicable retention exceptions.

Copies you shared with other users, exported files, and information held independently by Apple, Google, or other providers are not automatically deleted when you delete your Light DJ account.

Your choices and privacy rights

Account and content controls. Use the account and content controls available in your app to manage your information. Where Light DJ Network account management is available, its Delete Account option starts account deletion; you may need to sign in again to verify ownership. You can also request access, correction, or deletion by emailing kevin@nrthrnlights.com. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify your identity or authority to make a request.

Uninstalling the app does not delete your cloud account or cancel a subscription. Deleting your Light DJ account does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription. Manage subscriptions through the store where you purchased them. To remove device-local information, use the app's available controls or your operating system's app-data removal options.

Permissions and communications. You can change app permissions in your device settings and unsubscribe from marketing messages. Where processing relies on your consent, you can withdraw it through the available control or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Essential account, purchase, security, or service communications may still be necessary even if you unsubscribe from marketing.

Regional rights and legal bases. Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. Contact us to exercise these rights; we will respond within the period required by applicable law and explain any exceptions that apply.

For processing subject to the GDPR or UK GDPR, NRTHRNLIGHTS, L.L.C. acts as a controller for the information practices described here. We rely on contractual necessity to provide requested account, cloud, and purchase-entitlement services; legitimate interests, where permitted and balanced against your rights, for service security, support, and improvement; consent where required for optional analytics, device storage, permissions, or marketing; and legal obligations for required compliance and recordkeeping. A device permission does not by itself authorize unrelated uses of your information.

Children

Our apps and cloud service are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact kevin@nrthrnlights.com so we can investigate and take appropriate steps to delete it. Where a higher age or additional safeguards apply under local law, we follow those requirements.

Other services and websites

Links to other websites and integrations with stores, sign-in services, music services, and lighting providers do not make those services subject to this policy. Review their privacy policies for information about their independent practices.

Policy changes

We will update the date at the beginning of this policy when it changes. For material changes, we will provide appropriate notice, such as a notice in the app or on our website, or an email where appropriate. Where required, we will obtain consent before applying a new use of your information.
